Modified Tents for Livelihood Support in Highland Communities

August 5, 2024: The Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture and Livestock graced the handing-over ceremony of modified tents today, under the project titled “Improving the Quality of Yak Hair Products for Enhanced Income Generation of Highland Communities.” This initiative, implemented by the Department of Livestock and supported by the Bhutan Foundation, aims to enhance the livelihoods of highland communities by providing cost-efficient modified tents for migration camps and promoting the conservation of yak fiber for high-value textile products.

As part of the project, 91 modified tents have been distributed to the communities of Lingzhi, Soe, Yaksa, Nubr, Bje, Esu, Kartsho, and Tsento. Additionally, the Department will install a felting machine and a spinning machine at the Yak Breeding Farm in Chonaphu, Haa, to support the establishment of a yak hair enterprise in the country.

The Bhutan Foundation has generously provided a grant of USD 76,765 (seventy-six thousand seven hundred sixty-five) to support this project.
