𝟑 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟑: The Hon’ble Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock inaugurated the Changkhyi Conservation Center at Yusipang, Thimphu. The center, situated 2.8 km away from the Thimphu-Punakha highway, is an essential component of the ongoing Nation-wide Accelerated Dog Population Management and Rabies Control Program (NADPM and RCP). Its primary objective is to conserve the native dog breeds (changkhyi) of Bhutan.

Currently, the center is home to 37 adult dogs, comprising 16 males and 21 females. These dogs were selected based on their phenotypic characteristics from different dzongkhags namely Thimphu, Paro, Wangdue, Chukha, and Zhemgang. To further inform the conservation efforts, the genetic profiling of these dogs is currently underway. Additionally, the center homes 14 recently born puppies, which were whelped by two of the female dogs.

The inauguration event was graced by the presence of distinguished guests, including Zimpon Wom, Dasho Sonam Thinley from the Office of the Gyalpoi Zimpon, Dasho Dzongdag of Thimphu Dzongkhag Administration, Dasho Thrompon of Thimphu thromde, and the Director of the Department of Livestock.
