𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟑 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞 (𝟐𝟎 𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟑): 𝐃𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐨 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲’𝐬 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐚𝐫𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐳𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐤𝐡𝐚𝐠

Dasho Secretary and the team, during their return to Thimphu, visited the Integrated Cold Store (ICS) located in Jigmeling, Sarpang, which is operated by FCBL. The facility features two chambers, each with a capacity of 12 MT, intended for storing meat items. Additionally, the cold store is equipped with facilities to store vegetables, fruits, and dairy products as well.

Secretary concluded his two-day visit to Sarpang with a brief visit to the Dzongkhag Veterinary Hospital and the National Poultry Development Centre, where he interacted with the staff.

𝟏𝟗-𝟐𝟏 𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟑: The Department of Livestock (DoL) is leading a pioneering three-day workshop in Bhutan to create a comprehensive roadmap for the Noble Yak Fibre value chain. The workshop brings together key stakeholders and experts to develop strategies that go beyond fiber production. It aims to incorporate climate-smart interventions, optimize animal welfare, promote collaboration among yak cooperatives and institutions, and empower highland communities for sustainable growth

The Noble Yak Fibre value chain initiative seeks to not only harness the potential of yak fibre but also to nurture a harmonious relationship between animals, communities, and stakeholders. Participants from various esteemed organisations under the Department such as the National Highland Development Center (NHDC), National Livestock Research Centre (NLRC) and the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) join the DoL in this significant workshop.

Ms. Nancy Johnston, an esteemed Asian American impact entrepreneur and business leader from the United Kingdom, is serving as a technical consultant through FAO to facilitate a strategy and vision building program. Known for promoting sustainability and fair practices in the fashion and lifestyle industry, she founded the UK-based brand House of Tengri, exemplifying commitment to ethical ventures. With successful collaborations with prominent establishments like Huntsman, Selfridges, and Savoir Beds, her expertise will significantly contribute to the workshop’s goal of fostering sustainable growth, prioritising the welfare of yaks and the involved communities.

 

The workshop is supported by Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), Bhutan.
