The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock held a debriefing meeting with two sturgeon experts from Belgium, Dr. Willy Verdonck and Dr. Mia Verdonck on the plans to develop Sturgeon Farming in Bhutan.

During their 11-days visit to the country, the experts visited fish farms and research facilities at the National Research and Development Center for Riverine and Lake Fisheries, Haa and the Bhutan Sturgeon Farm in Harachhu and conducted a rapid assessment of the rearing facilities and existing fish stock. After thoroughly reviewing the development plans for sturgeon farming, they presented a comprehensive set of technical recommendation for further development of the project.

The experts, who have over 30 years of experience in sturgeon farming and caviar production, are highly knowledgeable and experienced in the field. Their recommendations are expected to play a crucial role in enhancing the technical capacity of the Ministry in developing sturgeon farming programs in the country.

The Ministry expressed its sincere gratitude to Dr. Willy and Dr. Mia for their valuable contributions and looks forward to continued collaboration in the future. The meeting was chaired by the Honโ€™ble Secretary of MoAL and attended by key officials from the Department of Livestock.
